Strengthening Financial-Services Sector, Perbanas to Hold Indonesia Banking Expo

Jakarta, 4 November 2019 - Indonesian Banks Association (Perbanas) will hold its 2019 Indonesia Banking Expo (IBEX) on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at the Fairmont Hotel. During the event, themed "Consolidate to Elevate”, Perbanas will provide recommendations to key stakeholders in the financial-services sector based on the thinking of leading industry participants in the archipelago. The recommendations will focus on what needs to be done to face ongoing and future changes in the banking industry, and consolidation of the financial and fintech sectors so as to create a stronger, more effective and efficient financial ecosystem in the future.
IBEX 2019 Steering Committee Chairman, Ahmad Siddik Badruddin, said that a total of 7 IBEX events had been held since 2011. This year, Perbanas also invited representatives from the insurance, finance, payment and fintech industries to participate in the discussions.
"Unlike IBEX events in the previous years, IBEX 2019 will not only consist of seminars but will also contribute with financial-service opportunities and strategies in the archipelago in the future so that we can increasingly play a bigger role in developing the national economy," said Ahmad Siddik Badruddin.
This contribution, continued Siddik, will take the form of recommendations that are compiled by Perbanas and reflect key thoughts on the development of the Indonesian financial industry up to 2025. In addition to the banking sector, recommendation will also be prepared on payment systems, fintech, finance, insurance and other financial-sector component industries based on the results of Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) held in September - October 2019.
IBEX 2019, which is expected to be opened by President Joko Widodo and will also be attended by Deputy Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara, Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia Sugeng, and OJK Commissioner, Heru Kristiyana, will discuss various topics, such as "The indispensable roles of financial services to the nation", "Inside Indonesia: Rethinking the social contract of financial services", "Future of regulations" and “A global view: Mastering the new realities in financial services".
In addition, IBEX 2019 will feature a number of panel discussions related to Indonesia Banking 2025, the great debate between traditional banks, digital upstarts and investors, remaking the bank for ecosystem world, future of banking and payments. The panel discussions will be addressed by financial-industry leaders, such as Bank BRI CEO Sunarso, Maybank Indonesia CEO Taswin Zakaria, BCA Bank CEO Jahja Setiaatmadja, OJK Commissioner Heru Kristiyana, Paypal’s Global Head Strategy, Alfonso Villanueva, DBS Managing Director Pearlyn Phau, Traveloka President Henry Hendrawan, and the CEO of One Connect Financial Technology Bin Ru.
