Bank Mandiri Expands e-toll Card Penetration
Jakarta, 16 April 2012 – Bank Mandiri, in collaboration with Jasa Marga, is continuing to expand the promotion of e-Toll Cards so as to make it easier for motorists to pay road tolls.
The e-Toll Card is a prepaid card issued by Bank Mandiri in cooperation with toll-road operators to facilitate the payment of tolls. Using an e-Toll Card enables drivers to pay tolls faster and thereby helps to reduce the lines at toll gates during peak hours.
Up to the end of March 2012, a total of 693 thousand e-Toll Cards had been issued, marking a 239% increase from the same period last year. Meanwhile, transactions in March numbered 4.8 million per month, 300% up from March 2011, when only 1.2 million transactions were recorded.
Of the more than 1.58 million Mandiri prepaid cards currently in circulation, e-Toll Card transactions dominate, accounting for 94% of all transactions conducted with Mandiri prepaid cards (e-Toll Card, Indomaret Card and Gaz Card).
Bank Mandiri and Jasa Marga indeed to continue promoting the Mandiri e-Toll Card so as to popularize non-cash payment of road tolls. As part of the campaign, all of the members of Bank Mandiri and Jasa Marga’s Boards of Directors, as well as State Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan, took a hand in selling Mandiri e-Toll Cards at the Cililitan toll gate in Jakarta on Monday (16/4). The event also featured the handing out of interesting gifts to lucky motorists.
To promote the electronic payment of tolls, Jasa Marga will offer discounts of up to 10% to those using using e-Toll Cards at its automatic toll gates. The offer is valid on Mondays to Fridays from 16 April to 16 July.
Bank Mandiri Executive Director Zulkifli Zaini said the e-Toll Card program was part of the effort to improve services to toll-road users. “We will continue to develop and expand e-Toll Card penetration as part of our commitment to making it easier for people to conduct transactions,” Zulkifli said.
The Mandiri e-Toll Card can currently be used on 12 toll-road segments and at 520 toll gates in different parts of the country. It can be topped up at more than 20 thousand locations in major population centers such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Medan, Lampung and Bali, as well as at Mandiri ATMs bearing the “Refill” logo.
The Mandiri ATM refill service is not only available to Bank Mandiri customers, but also to customers of other banks who have an ATM Bersama debit card. In addition, e-Toll Card refills can also be purchased in all Indomaret, Alfamart, Alfamidi and Alfaexpress outlets, and Bank Mandiri branches.
Committed to Better Services
Jasa Marga Executive Director Adityawarman announced that in line with the increasing popularity of e-Toll Cards, Jasa Marga had launched a program in February to increase the number of automatic toll gates from 17 to 50. By the end of April, it was expected that 46 would be in operation, and all 50 by the end of September. “With these automatic toll gates, we expect to see the lines at toll gates getting shorting,” explained Adityawarman.
He also said that Jasa Marga was in the process of rolling out its new e-toll pass system, which allows users to pass through toll gates without swiping a card or even rolling down their windows. “We currently have four e-toll pass gates in operation, at Cengkareng, Kapuk, Cililitan and Halim. Eventually, all automatic toll gates will be equipped with a transceiver so as to be able to accommodate e-toll pass users,” Adityawarman explained.
