Balance checking, anywhere, anytime

Six months ago I was withdrawing some cash from Bank Mandiri ATM and was offered to register for SMS banking service. Initially I thought it won’t be useful. Instead, I was thinking, why would I waste some money by sending SMS? Whenever I needed to check my balance, I could always go to ATM. But eventually, I registered for the service. Not only fast, it was free of charge; Bank Mandiri even provided me a souvenir, a desktop mobile phone holder. Not bad, isn’t it?
I started to get curious about the service. What do they actually provide us with? Indeed, we can check our balance, transfer some money, even buy mobile phone voucher via SMS. Hmmm... isn’t that awesome?

I was surprised when Bank Mandiri sent me an SMS for the first time. A series of numbers, which is the amount of my monthly salary, was revealed on my mobile phone screen. Wow, my salary had been transferred. I started to realize the benefit of SMS banking service. I don’t need to find an ATM to check whether my salary has been deposited or not, or just to check my current balance. All we need to do is type the particular command for balance checking and send the message to 3355. Within less than a minute, we’ll get the information needed through SMS.
I have another experience with this service. Every month I go shopping at hypermarket. Thanks to Mandiri ATM card which also serves as a debit card, I don’t have to bring cash to pay. But one day, it took such a long time to process the transaction. The cashier informed me that the line was busy. After three attempts, the transaction succeeded.
Somehow, after the transaction, I was a bit worried. What if those three attempts had debited my account? At that very moment I took advantage of SMS banking service. I didn’t have to waste my time looking for an ATM. In a minute, I got an SMS revealing my balance. The account was not debited. What a relief!
